Why / How did you start your business in the bicycle industry?
We started in 2009 and at that time, it was so difficult to find a nice single-speed/fixed-gear that was affordable AND high-quality. We set out to make the best bicycle we could for an affordable price. We wanted to offer a bike that our customers were PROUD to own and ride, without costing a ton of money. There are a lot of quality bikes, there are a lot of affordable bikes, and there are a lot of bikes out there that I'd be proud to ride/own. There aren't many that satisfy all 3 criteria. That was our focus when we started State Bicycle Co. and it's still how we think when we're creating new products.

What is your own favourite product from the brand?
Obviously that's difficult to answer, but I really love the 6061 Black Label series. Such an amazing ride. We have some exciting core-line fixies coming to the UK later in 2016, which are beautiful in design, so I am eager for those too. The core-line bikes are also a favorite -- the feel of a well-built core-line is so amazing. We keep improving the components on that line, so it's just getting better and better. And the price hasn't changed, so it's become such a huge value for £399.

Do you have a favourite cycling event/activity that you take up every year?
The Red Hook Crit series is the most exciting event for me. The competition is so strong, the courses are always great, and it's so exciting for the viewer. And I think it's great for the sport.

What inspires you to cycle, what places would you suggest to cycle to?
Anywhere, as long as you're having fun, you're riding in the right place!
What’s planned for near future (for the brand)?
There are a lot of exciting things in the works. For one thing, we're working on a HUGE collaboration right now, which we will be launching towards the end of 2016. Secondly, as I mentioned, we've made some MAJOR improvements to our 4130 Core-Line fixies (in the US) which will be making it's way to the UK soon. There's a lot more I could talk about, but I'll save the surprise... :)
